It’s Back!! The Annual Swim for Smiles Youth Triathlon Returns for 2015

Annual Swim for Smiles Youth Triathlon Returns to Chapel Hill

Founder’s Daughter to Assume Race Director Position

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Swim for Smiles Foundation is proud to announce that it will once again hold its annual Swim for Smiles Youth Triathlon in Chapel Hill, N.C. The 2015 event will be Annabelle Kayye’s first event as the SFS Race Director, a title SFS co-founder Gary Kayye, her father, is proud to pass along to her.

Gary Kayye co-founded the Swim for Smiles Foundation as a way to give back to N.C. Children’s Hospital after his daughter, Annabelle, spent nine weeks in and out of area children’s hospitals battling a serious illness when she was just four years old.

“I couldn’t be prouder that my daughter stepped-up and asked if she could become a race director for the 2015 event,” Kayye said. “There’s probably nobody better to take the helm as she has not only raced in virtually every event we’ve held, but she’s also participated in nearly every meeting, set up, teardown and event planning session we’ve ever had.”

cancel-pic2Last year, the foundation had to regretfully cancel the long running annual youth event due to unforeseen circumstances, however this year, the race is back! The ultimate goal is to provide the highest quality race possible and the foundation is committed to providing the best race Chapel Hill has seen.

The 8th Swim for Smiles Youth Triathlon will be held on August 30th and will be open to kids ages 5-17 and is a USA-Triathlon sanctioned event, which includes two courses, a short course and long course for all levels of participants. In addition, a limited number of relay teams will be open to participants.

We will unveil the exact location on May 6th when we open officially open registration. The 2015 race will only be available to the first 300 kids that register. For more information about the Swim for Smiles Foundation, please visit

Swim For Smiles Hosts 6th Annual Youth Triathlon

CHAPEL HILL, NC (April 28, 2012) - The Swim for Smiles Foundation is hosting its 6th Annual Youth Triathlon on Sunday May 6 at the Chapel Hill Country Club. Registration for the triathlon is open to participants ages 5-19.

The 2011 event was the largest children’s triathlon in the United States, and readers of Durham-based Endurance Magazine voted it the “Best Kid’s Race in North Carolina” for the past two years.

The Swim for Smiles Foundation is a nonprofit organization run entirely by volunteers. One hundred percent of the proceeds of the events run by Swim for Smiles are donated to the North Carolina Children’s Hospital.

This local event, which draws 70 percent of its participants from the Chapel Hill and Carrboro communities, has raised more than $200,000 for the N.C. Children’s Hospital.

This year’s event features a grant that will allow 40 kids who would otherwise be unable to participate to take part in the competition.

Three of the winners from the 2011 Youth Triathlon medaled at the Youth Triathlon Nationals, but they won’t be the only stars there. Both Chapel Hill Mayor Mark Kleinschmidt and Carrboro Mayor Mark Chilton will be in attendance, and the King BMX Stunt Show will perform throughout the event.

The race features two courses, a short course for novice competitors and a longer course for more advanced competitors.  The short course race will begin promptly at 8:05 a.m., and the long course race will start at approximately 9:10 a.m.

Sponsors of the triathlon include South Fine Gifts & Furnishings, TCBY, Le Bleu, Fleet Feet Sports Carrboro, The Michael & Laura Brader-Araje Foundation, Triangle Multisport, Caribou Coffee and New Balance.
